Confessions of a Tebow-er

On a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, there was a skit poking fun of Tim Tebow and his Christian practices.  My first response was to laugh at the humor of it. I failed to see it for what it was, an unacceptable mockery of someone’s religious beliefs and practices.

Tim Tebow is an NFL Quarterback who is garnering praises for his late game heroics.  Lately, his unwavering faith in God has been the topic of discussion.  Tebow celebrates his on-field successes by dropping to one knee in a praying position.  He does this despite criticism from fans and players alike.  He also never fails to give God all the credit for his wins.

Back to the skit.  The skit had an actor portraying Jesus.  ‘Jesus’ enters the locker room and confronts Tim Tebow (another actor) and his team.  He takes credit for their last win and told him to ‘tone it down a notch’. (his christian practices).  Suffice to say, it was of poor taste.  It is wrong on all fronts, to poke fun of other people’s beliefs. Could you imagine the fallout if this had been another religion, say Muslim, that was made fun of? There would have been world-wide protests.

As a fellow Christian, I find it very noble when Christians fearlessly practice their faith publicly.  It is not an easy thing for someone in Tim Tebow’s profession to stand up for what he believes in.  How much easier it is for an atheist to tell the world that there is no God yet the voice of the Christian is muted?

I am a Tebow-er and this is MY TAKE.

Another Anthem Flub

Former Idol, and one of my favorites from her season, Lauren Alaina, is in the news for all the wrong reasons.  She succumbed to her nerves and flubbed a line of the National Anthem.  Criticisms were fast and furious.  From her appearance to her sexuality.  Some had not the faintest relevance to the incident.

As a performer myself, I know the jitters can be over powering when performing in front of a large audience or any audience for that matter. I cannot count how many times I have forgotten the lyrics to songs.  To make matters worst, they were songs I wrote.  Lauren is only 17 years old and showed remarkable composure in the way she righted the ship and sailed on bravely.  By the end of the song, one could almost forget the slip-up.  Kudos Lauren!

On the matter of Celebrities singing the National Anthem, is it really necessary?  Why can’t everyone  stand and sing it together with pride?  This will also help to eliminate future Anthem flubs.

Lindsay Lohan yet again.

*Yawn* So here we go again..same old, same old…

LYNWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Lindsay Lohan was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Monday, less than five hours after she arrived at the crowded women’s lockup to serve a 30-day sentence for violating probation.

The “Mean Girls” actress was booked into the Century Regional Detention facility in Lynwood at 8:48 p.m. Sunday, in what was expected to be a short stay because of jail overcrowding.

She was released at 1:35 a.m., county sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

News crews staking out the jail said she left in a black Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle, and that she was in her Venice home by 2 a.m.

Lohan did not get any favors, Whitmore said.

“She’s treated like every other inmate who has gone through similar circumstances,” he said.

Lohan had until Nov. 9 to report to the jail.

It’s Lohan’s fifth jail sentence since being arrested twice for drunken driving in 2007.

I gave up. Nothing else to say on this matter…

Lindsay Lohan. Again

If you are like me, you are tired of reading about Lindsay Lohan’s antics.  She continues to thumb her powder-filled nose at the court system, by repeatedly breaking curfews, not fulfilling her community services and probation,  even re-offending.  For some strange reason, she still manages to gain leniency and slap on the wrist punishments.  Every court hearing have the same lead-up:  ”Lindsay Lohan back in court.  Faces long jail time”.  So far, she has yet to do some serious hard time, which I think is what this spoiled brat needs to bring her down to earth.  Not a women’s retreat prison where she gets diva-like treatment.

I say it’s time to stop this train wreck but that’s just my take.
