My Takes

Just my humble opinion…

He Said What?

This morning I was listening to 92 CITI FM when I heard the dj say, “Son of a b###h!”    Now I’m not a prude or nor am I perfect, even though some may think I am, but it sure caught me off guard.  Does everything goes on radio and tv now?

I have three young kids and I censor what they hear and see on radio, tv and computer.  I  know most kids these days hardly know what a radio is much less to listen to one early in the morning but I still think colorful language and conversation has no place on radio.  That fine line that separates the acceptable from the not-so-acceptable is getting blurrier and blurrier.

The Bachelor Or The Player?

Finally someone else is seeing the reality show The Bachelor for what it really is (The female version is not exempted).  It is a show that is contradicting all the values we try to instill in our children.  It also erodes the very fabric of our society on a whole.

I know that for sensationalism, shows like this feed societal cravings.  We want to see love. We want to see our favorite girl gets the guy even at all cost.  Cost being that he ‘samples’ the other girls then drop them like it’s hot.  In our own soap box, some of us would not accept this sort of behavior from the men in our lives.  We would find it unacceptable. Reprehensible. Sick. Disgusting.

So today, I read with some degree of satisfaction that Barbara Walters has sided with me and slammed the show for what it is, degrading to both sexes and a step back for humanity. (those are my words). Her piece  can be read here.

My take on this whole thing is that we as a society practice a double standard when it comes to what we watch and embrace on television and what we live.  The things we abhor in real life are relished when packaged in a television show.  We fail to recognize that these shows do involve real people with real lives and real feelings.

This show should be called ‘The Player’.

CrefloDOLLARministries

How do you build a successful ministry?  Apparently DOLLAR by DOLLAR.

While walking on the treadmill this morning, I watched a televangelist do his bit on the television.  I had never seen or heard about him before and after watching for a bit, found out his name was Creflo Dollar.  “What a name to have in this business?” is what I thought.  At one point in his broadcast, he asked for a donation of $120 which would entitle the donor to some of his cds.  I thought, “Here comes the DOLLAR part of his name”.  I was watching this show as part of my morning devotion so I did not allow myself to be sidetracked by whatever suspicions the devil was trying to throw my way.

After I was done exercising, I made it a point of Googling Mr. Dollar to see where he was coming from.  I found this out, “Dollar is known for his controversial teachings of Prosperity theology.[9] He has been criticized for his lavish lifestyle as he owns two Rolls-Royces, a private jet, a million dollar home in Atlanta, and a 2.5 million dollar home in Manhattan.[9] Dollar has refused to disclose his salary and Creflo Dollar Ministries received a grade of “F” for financial transparency by the organization MinistryWatch.“

Seriously? During his show, Mr. Moneybags was telling me that one shouldn’t worry about money and job etc. but just have faith.  Shame on you, Dollar!  Talk about living a humble life…It’s so easy for someone who possesses what he does to preach to the minions like us about not wanting  running after money. Of course we shouldn’t, we should send it all to you in the name of donation…

This is my take. Mr. Dollar could very well be innocent of all these allegations so do not side with me on my vent.  I speak it as I see it. That’s all.  Remember, it’s not the messenger, it’s the message that he brings.

The Golden Globes

Last night was a prime example of what’s wrong with our world.  The much-anticipated Golden Globes was on and the Hollywood elites got their chance to show off their wealth and fame while some of us sat in front of our televisions eating kraft dinner and watching this facade.

I watch and enjoy movies and television shows as much as the other guy but that is where all similarity ends.  I do not follow the lives of celebrities. I couldn’t care less what they did and what they named their kids.  As a news junkie, it is sometimes impossible to ignore news relating to Hollywood Stars and that’s how I came upon the story about Modern Family Sofia Vergara wearing 5 million dollar worth of jewelery to the Globes. Five million worth of earrings, necklaces and bracelets!  Seriously, how can you feel good about yourself wearing millions in jewels or clothing for that matter. While parts of our world are experiencing starvation.  Forget parts of the world, parts of their very own neighborhood, the stars parade around showing off their wealth.  Yes I know it’s their money and they can do whatever they want with it but come on. If you have everything and have done everything that money can afford, why not do something worthwhile with what you have left?

Apparently this is nothing new as Carrie Underwood wore $7 Million worth of accessories to the CMA Awards in 2007 and Jennifer Lopez also had jewels totalling $5 million at last year’s Golden Globes. Shame! Shame!
