Goodbye Uncle Louis
Last April, we made a road trip out to Thunder Bay Ontario, to visit Amie’s uncle, Louis. He had been battling cancer for a couple years then the battle turned into a one-sided fight. We wanted to see him the way we wanted to remember him, the smart, funny and opinionated uncle that he was, hence the trip.
Uncle Louis was diagnosed with cancer at age fifty nine. Much too young. Prior to this, he was a picture of health. Always buying the latest fitness gadgets and preaching the benefits of exercise and proper eating. He was also an avid golfer, a passion he shared with his wife. They would go on road trips together and on the drive, would not think twice about pulling whenever they drive past a golf course and put in a round.
Today, we are making another road trip to Thunder Bay. This time to say goodbye to Uncle Louis. The tears will flow for some but the fact that everyone knew that the end was imminent, helps to deaden the pain. For him, no more pain and sleepless nights. No more medications and their undesirable side effects. He has finally found relief.
God bless you uncle Louis and may your soul rest in eternal peace.
